Ensure Proper Functioning of Evaporator Fan Motor For Effective Cooling in Refrigerators!

The advanced evaporative cooler uses the water to cool off air brought in from outside. Electrical power or motor propels the pumps to wet the pads, and the blower fan makes the air pass onto wet pads, losing heat and spreading cool waves in the space. Likewise, the evaporator fan motor in a refrigerator traps air through the coils of the evaporator, cools the air, and distributes it throughout the freezer and refrigerator compartments. It is a critical component in a refrigerator to maintain the airflow cycle.

Indicators of Evaporator Fan Motor Functioning

The evaporator fan motor is typically located on the backside of the refrigerator system in the rear panel of the freezer. If it does not function properly, the temperature within the refrigerator will rise. The freezer will begin to defrost. The motor runs with a typical sound when the door of the refrigerator is closed. If it does not run properly due to something caught in the blades, the users can notice the high-pitched sound. However, when it stops functioning, no sound comes.

Reasons for the Failure of Evaporator Fan Motor

The fan motor does not operate properly due to physical obstructions such as fan cover, ice-build ups on the fan blades, bent metal blades, and accumulation of dirt on bearings. The motor can burn itself if blades become jammed and do not rotate freely. In the case of ice buildups, the serviceman must allow it to melt, and in the bent blade case, he must replace the fan blades. He can easily remove the dirt with a good shot of penetrating oil. Broken wire between thermostatic control and fan motor can result in no power supply to the motor. In such a case, he should either connect the wire or replace the thermostatic control.

Inspection of Evaporator Fan Motor

It is essential to unplug the refrigerator while checking the evaporator fan motor. If the repairer screws out the rear panel, he also needs to remove the shelves and the stuff from the fridge. He should take care of every mounting hardware item and keep them secure to fix them later. The repairer might need to unscrew the hardware holding any air ducts to take out the rear panel.

He gets access to the evaporator fan motor and the coils and removes every disrupting stuff on fan blades. He should allow the frost on coils to melt to check the functioning of the motor. The serviceman checks the wiring and the electrical resistance of the motor with a multimeter. If the reading does not match the manufacturer’s specifications, the motor goes for replacement.

The quality evaporator fan motors have a long life cycle, and they play an important role in the cooling of refrigerators. The serviceman should ensure its functioning with proper wiring, removal of obstruction, and symmetrical fan blades.
